No previous sailing experience is needed as you'll get all the training you'll need to be able to sail the yachts. You'll work together as a crew to sail the boat under the direction of a professional skipper.

The Marie Curie Ocean Challenge from Ondeck Sailing

Day 1
Arrive 9am for breakfast. You'll meet your fellow shipmates and enjoy a tour of the Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth's awe-inspiring 170 metre high landmark and the perfect place to say goodbye to your landlubber chums. Then there will be sail training on the water and familiarisation with the yachts before heading off later in the afternoon. The first leg through the Channel Islands will involve racing against the other yachts and sailing through the night so.
Day 2
All yachts will rendezvous in St Malo in the afternoon/evening. You'll have a chance to explore historic St Malo and in the evening we will have a celebratory meal at a restaurant in the harbour.
Day 3 In the morning there will be more time to explore St Malo and have lunch before setting sail mid-afternoon for the return leg to Portsmouth. This will be another overnight sail.
Day 4 Arrive back in Portsmouth in the afternoon.

The event is open to novice sailors and the more experienced. Individuals and teams or groups of friends can apply to join this event and help raise much needed funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The money you raise will help us provide more care for terminally ill cancer patients across the UK, totally free.

The cost of the event is just £100, and we ask that each participant raises a minimum of £1,250 in sponsorship above this. This includes all on-board meals, accommodation on the yachts and training on the first day, as well as a free training day prior to the event.
