JP Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race 2011
organised by the Island Sailing Club
2010 Update
The 2010 JP Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race gave a ‘red eyed’ 5am start from the Royal Yacht Squadron line off Cowes, Isle of Wight with nearly 1800 yachts competing this year. Ample wind and sunny intervals made for a very pleasant race for everyone with all our yachts in around lunch time.
As well as looking after over 150 sailors over ten boats for this years event, Ondeck worked with all their crews to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support who were one of the four official charities of this year’s race. International law firm, Squire Sanders initiated the fundraising initiative and chartered an Elan 450 from Ondeck along with world record breaking, Vendee Globe skipper, Brian Thompson (managed 2nd in class). The combined efforts for the fundraising saw approximately £4000 being raised making us the third highest fundraiser for the entire event. So, a huge thank you to all who supported this and a big thank you to Andrew Knight at Squire Sanders for all his hard work.
The Ondeck Mount Gay Rum Party at the Waterside Inn on Saturday evening gave an opportunity for all the crew to share banter, drink the ‘Rum that Invented Rum’ and raise more money for Macmillan with a luxury raffle of items donated by Mount Gay, Dubarry of Ireland, Ondeck and Macmillan supporters. Live entertainment was provided from the band, Soul Lounge with a prizes presented by Paul Morgan from Macmillan.
Performance Power, a consultancy firm put up a challenge for the four Ondeck Farr 65s competing in the JP Morgan Asset Management Round the Island race and sponsored a first place perpetual trophy. The second place trophy was provided by our airline partner and sponsor Virgin Atlantic Airlines with the third place being the Macmillan Cancer Support trophy.
First place went to Spirit of Diana, second to Spirit of Isis, which was chartered to Performance Power for the race, and third place to Spirit of Juno.
