The ICC is now a legal requirement in most
European countries (except the UK) as evidence of your competence to
skipper a boat. This Certificate can only be obtained by UK residents,
and proof of your residential address will be required. At Ondeck, we offer an ICC weekend, where your instructor will give you one day tuition, followed by the ICC assessment on the following day. The assessment is a basic test of your boat handling under power, navigational ability, man overboard procedure and knowledge of the collision regulations. The standard required for the ICC is slightly less than that required to pass the Day Skipper Practical course. If you feel that you are not confident in any of the above, we strongly recommend that you undertake the Basic Navigation and Safety Course, and the Day Skipper Theory Shorebased course. A weeks long training can be provided. If you are unsure of whether you have sufficient experience to pass this course, please call our office to get advice. The ICC can be automatically claimed for a small fee when completing the following courses:
CEVNI If you are considering taking your vessel onto the inland waterways, you will also have to have your ICC endorsed with a CEVNI test. This test is a multiple choice exam based on the various rules and signage seen on the inland waterways of the UK and Europe. This can be arranged upon request. The assessment criteria for the ICC can be found on the RYA website, and the knowledge required to pass the CEVNI test can be learnt by purchasing the RYA book entitled “Inland Waterway Regulations (G17)”. |
